Spruce (Picea abies)

We source all our wood from local spruce growing in the Karkonosze and Sudetes. This is the timber we use to craft our shafts and finished arrows — from careful board selection, through precise machining, to the final surface finish.

Reference properties (~12% MC): density ~405 kg/m³, MOE ~9.7 GPa, Janka hardness ~1,680 N.

In practice: light and springy, giving lower mass at a given spine than pine and often than POC. It requires very sharp tools due to its tendency to tear out where the grain reverses.

Compared to other species: lighter and softer than pine; compared to POC, it has a slightly lower stiffness-to-weight ratio, but with proper selection it performs reliably in all conditions. It is the most demanding to work with and the hardest to source in the right quality — but statistically the lightest of the three comparable species.

Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris)

We source all our wood locally, exclusively from high-elevation areas of the Sudetes. This is the pine we use to craft our shafts and finished arrows — from careful selection of the timber, through precise shaping, to the final surface finish.

Why pine for archers?

Durability and impact resistance — Pine is harder than spruce and handles intensive use and outdoor conditions far better: fewer dents, splinters, and chips. It also tends to grow straighter, which means straighter shafts that hold their shape for a long time.

Stable, “calm” flight — The higher mass of pine shafts provides smooth behavior in windy conditions. They pair very well with 100–125 gr field points, offering healthy FOC and quick stabilization. Compared to spruce, pine gives a slightly lower initial speed, which contributes to consistent, controlled shooting — especially at shorter 3D distances (up to about 30 m).

Clean workmanship — Pine produces a smooth surface after planing and sanding, takes feathers and adhesives exceptionally well, and its edges stay neat for a long time.
